What is Custom ROM?

Custom ROM is normally developed by developers and hackers. It is a phone’s or device firmware. Which gives access to the users to customize, edit the code and recompile it to implement changes in their operating system. It gives new features to their users.

When you purchase a new android device. It comes with an pre-installed operating system which known as Stock ROM.

It is created by its manufacturers. But a Stock ROM has limited features and functions which is pre-defined by its manufacturer. But you can explore more features by flashing a Custom ROM. It provides you the more features which is not able to operate in a Stock ROM.


It has its own advantages which increase its importance for its users. So, Lets start seeing some of it’s advantages:-

Battery Life:- Battery Life is the Main Part Of Any Android Phone. You can increase battery life of your device by doing underclocking. If you didn’t want to use the higer performance of you device processor. You just need to lower the speed of your processor which consumes lesser power. More Light Custom ROM Consumes Lesser amount of Power

System Updates :- No one is want to stuck with the same old features at all the time with and older version of android. But it becomes frustrating to waiting for your manufacturer to send the update to get the new features. Some of the manufacturers doesn’t provides the latest version of Android and some manufacturers provides, but not so long. Custom ROM is the best solution for upgrading in latest android version. It’s also known as Firmware update. If your android stucks on Oreo (Android version 8.0). You can download and flash a latest ROM based on Pie(9.0).

Customization:- After flashing a Custom ROM you will see everything new in your android device. You can do changes in your device. like change your notification LED light colour, contrast and colour of your screen, change the function of volume up and down button and also other exiciting features.

Performance:- It highly increase the performance of your device. Manufacturers of the device restricts the performance of your device at a given point. They optimize your hardware’s clock speed at a minimal state. By using Custom ROM you can overclock the speed of your hardware. Which increase the performance of your device.


It also have some disadvantages which increase the risk of damage of your device. So, Lets start seeing some of its:-

Bugs:- Maximum Custom ROM having some bugs. Due to bugs some functions starts working wrongly or even stops responding. Just like:- Dialer doesn’t open, face unlock doesn’t work etc.

Battery life:- It also effects your device battery life. Due to overclocking the speed of your processor is increase. And your device consumes more power. Due to which, battery life of your device is become low.

Voids device’s warranty:- If you want to flash a Custom ROM in your device you need to root your device. Which immediately void warranty of your device. If your device is bricked during rooting or flashing ROM. The manufacturer of your device will not be responsible for that. But some manufacturers also keeps the warranty.

Incompatibility:- If you flashing a incompatible ROM to your device there is a lot of risk of damage of your device. Your device starting taking too much time to process or may bricked.
